Spicy Beef Curry(Kerala Style)

  1. Beef,cut into cubes- 1 Kg
  2. Onion,sliced-4 medium(use Indian or Pakistani onion)
  3. Green chilies,cut vertically- 4 nos
  4. Curry leaves-3 to 4 sprigs
  5. Water- as required)
  6. Coconut oil- as required
  7. Salt- to taste
  8. Ginger,chopped-2 tbsp
  9. Garlic,chopped-2 tbsp
  10. Kashmiri chili powder-2tbsp
  11. Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
  12. Coriander powder- 2 tbsp
  13. Fennel seeds- 1 tsp
  14. Cinnamon – 2″ piece
  15. Cloves-4 nos
  16. Cardamom-4 nos
  17. Star anise- 2small
  18. Whole black pepper- 1 tsp


  1. Dry Roast ingredients marked 11 till 19 and powder them.
  2. Crush the ginger and  garlic marked 8 and 9 and keep aside.
  3. Heat coconut oil in pan.Add the crushed ginger garlic paste and saute till its raw smell fades away
  4. Add in sliced onion,green chilies and curry leaves.Saute until onion turns golden brown.
  5. Now add the ground spice powders and saute till oil starts to separate.Add beef and mix well until the masala gets  well coated on beef.
  6. Pour required amount of water and salt(per taste),cover and cook until beef is done .Uncover and cook for few more minutes or until gravy turns thick.


  • Slow cooking will make beef tender and tasty.
  • The curry is very spicy…so adjust the spices as per your tolerance level.
